Face Recognition Presensi Mahasiswa IIB Darmajaya Menggunakan Metode EigenFace

Dikki Datri Murdoko, Sulyono Sulyono

Abstract

This research aims to develop a facial recognition-based attendance system using the Eigenface method. This method is utilized to identify students by extracting facial features from their profile pictures. The facial recognition process involves preprocessing, face detection, feature extraction, and identification stages. The developed attendance system is capable of automatically detecting and recognizing students' faces with a significantly high level of accuracy. Data collection is conducted through observation, interviews, and literature review. The test results from 5 data samples show that this attendance system can recognize students' faces with an accuracy rate of 99.8% and a relatively fast recognition time, which is 1.5 seconds per face. This attendance system can serve as an alternative to the manual attendance system still prevalent in some higher education institutions. In conclusion, this research proves that the Eigenface method can be effectively utilized as one of the facial recognition approaches in developing a facial-based student attendance system.
