Why is there so much hype about water conservation in commercial restrooms? New Battery Reconditioning Course The short answer is that our supply of fresh water throughout the world is becoming more limited ever day. Second, the average office building uses about 40% of its total water consumption in the restrooms. Here are some more important points: Nearly 70% of our planet is covered with water, yet only 3% of that is considered fresh water. Two-thirds of that is locked away in glaciers and polar ice caps. Thus, only about 1% of the water found on Earth is considered fresh water, available for daily consumption. The EPA reports that 36 States throughout the U.S. anticipate non-drought related water shortages by the year 2013. As the Earth's population continues to grow, we need to find ways to meet our fresh water needs. In 2000, Americans used 408 billion gallons of water each day or about 145 gallons per person. The median cost for water is $7 per 1,000 gallons. We spend almost $3 billion per day for water. If we reduce our water consumption b 20%, we can save about $600 million per day as a nation. Leaving office equipment on 24-7 is not an effective way to reduce energy costs. Yet, many people do that in their home office because it takes too much time to turn them on and off. Energy efficiency is important in your home office as much as anywhere else in your home, and you can still save time while reducing your electricity bill. Leaving computers and printers on all the time is expensive. This will cause you to use a lot of kilowatts per year.
